Canoe Sessions At Lowestoft & District Canoe Club
Above all else expect to have fun… but be warned you will get wet!
Tuesdays from April to September are the training nights and they are usually a mixture of fun and formal teaching.
The club prides itself on its history as a training club. All coaches hold relevant qualifications awarded by the national governing body of the sport – the British Canoe Union (BCU).
Depending on the coach qualification each training group can expect to have between 8 and 12 paddlers all of a similar skill level. Each group has at the start of the season an objective to achieve based on the Star awards system used by the BCU. The Star awards are an incremental approach through the skill levels which will build up your abilities to take on ever more challenges if you so wish. You will be introduced to a mixture of canoes and kayaks. If you want to stop at the basic level that is fine. Only do as much as you want to.
We are sure that once you have been bitten by the bug you will want to paddle as often as you can.
It does not cost much to get started. The club provides boat, paddles, buoyancy aid and spray deck for a nominal charge. All you need to provide are some old jogging bottoms, old trainers and preferably some thin non cotton layers on top to keep warm. Top it all off with a walking cagoule to keep the wind off and you’re ready to go!
